Keeping A Promise To Rolinda

Just before I boarded the bus, little Rosalinda, an 8-year girl who had already been severely abused on the street, reached out and grabbed my hand. She stared at me intensely, and then asked, “Do you promise to come back and protect us, and give us a home, and help us go to school? Do you really promise?” This is the story of how one promise to little Rosalinda is making big changes in the lives of street children in Bogo, Cebu. It's only just a beginning but it all starts and continues with U.

Social Entrepreneurship and Education are the foundation for the Mindanao Model for Peace. The island of Mindanao is covered with beautiful rainforest and rivers, and surrounded by the South-China Sea. It contains more than 50% of the raw materials and natural resources of the Philippines, yet many of the poorest regions in the country are on this island. For centuries, the many tribes of Mindanao have struggled for survival, and suffered through conflict between rebel factions and government troops. By building schools for indigenous children and creating projects for sustainable, ecological, economic development on indigenous land, we can help create a new culture of peace.
